Nerdy Friday Fun: This or That

Happy Friday, fellow book nerds!

Today’s post is light on analysis and heavy on opinions. I’m doing a simple This or That: Book Nerd Edition, and yes, I’m answering my own questions too. Consider this a low-stakes peek into my reading habits and preferences, with absolutely no right or wrong answers.

Feel free to play along in the comments, or just silently judge my choices. Both are valid options.

Hardcover or Paperback?
My answer:
Paperback, hands down. I am a monstrous fold-the-book-back-as-I-read kind of person. My apologies to all the paperbacks I’ve permanently traumatized over the years.

Standalone or Series?
My answer:
Both, with conditions. I’ll happily read a series, but only if I can start at the beginning. If a book is publishing at number sixteen, I’m out. My brain refuses to jump in midstream.

Dog-eared pages or pristine copy?
My answer:
Pristine, in theory. Reality tends to intervene once I start folding pages back, which, as previously confessed, is inevitable.

Annotating as you go or keeping pages clean?
My answer:
Keeping pages clean. My thoughts stay in my head or in a notebook, not in the margins.

Reading one book at a time or juggling multiple?
My answer:
One at a time. I can’t juggle. I commit fully and emotionally.

Character-driven stories or plot-first reads?
My answer:
Both, but character-driven wins. I’m endlessly fascinated by how different people think and move through the world.

Cozy mysteries or high-stakes thrillers?
My answer:
High-stakes thrillers, hands down. I want that post-book adrenaline crash when I reach the final page.

Physical books or ebooks?
My answer:
Ebooks, for convenience. Adjustable font size and guilt-free highlighting win every time.

Rereading favorites or always chasing something new?
My answer:
Mostly chasing something new to me. I do have a couple of comfort reads, but 97.42% of the time I’m firmly in discovery mode.

That’s my Friday fun for the week.

Let’s discuss: Pick a few and answer them yourself. It’s always fun to learn where other readers land, especially when our reading instincts couldn’t be more different.
