Singing to the Sun by Regina Rodriguez Sirvent
Starting today is Singing to the Sun, a coming-of-age novel about Rita Racons, who fails her college’s required English course and suddenly finds herself without a plan. At her grandmother’s urging, Rita leaves Barcelona for the United States, first landing in New York and eventually in Atlanta, where she becomes an au pair for the Booklands, a cultured, well-read American family with three intellectually gifted children and very high expectations.
From the premise alone, Rita already feels like someone who doesn’t quite fit where she’s landed, which is part of what pulled me toward this one. The story looks set to explore culture shock, language barriers, and that uncomfortable, sometimes funny space where you’re trying to figure yourself out while feeling very far from home. I’m especially curious about the voice here and how Rita’s sense of direction begins to take shape.

Rings of Fate by Melissa de la Cruz
Up next is Rings of Fate, a romantasy centered on Aren Bellamore, a tavern keeper who has no interest in destiny, princes, or becoming anyone’s bride. When a brush with death throws her together with Prince Dietan, a royal slowly being killed by the cursed Rings of Fate he has worn since childhood, the two strike a bargain. A fake engagement that gives him political cover and her a possible path to freedom.
From everything I’ve seen so far, this one promises political schemes, dangerous journeys, monstrous threats, and a slow-burn attraction that complicates things in the best and worst ways. I’m drawn to the reluctant partnership at the center of it, and especially to a heroine who sounds practical, skeptical, and very much uninterested in being swept along by fate without a fight.
👀 Review to Look Forward To
The List of Suspicious Things by Jennie Godfrey
Coming up soon is my review of The List of Suspicious Things, a coming-of-age novel set in 1979 Yorkshire during a year marked by fear and uncertainty. The story follows Miv, a young girl who decides that the only way to keep her family from leaving is to catch the Yorkshire Ripper herself, an idea born out of love, fear, and a child’s need for control.
Although the premise sounds dark, this is very much a character-driven story, grounded in friendship, emotional awakening, and the slow, painful realization that the world is more complicated than it first appears. It’s tender, thoughtful, and quietly powerful, and I’m looking forward to talking about it in more depth soon.
