Saturday Nerd First Lines: Singing to the Sun

Hey, fellow book nerds! This Saturday finds me just about finished with Singing to the Sun by Regina Rodriguez Sirvent, translated by Beth Fowler. This is a review you’ll have to look forward to early in the new year. It’s been fairly quick reading, although I’ve been quite busy with mom duties for the past few days. I’ve had some chuckles reading this work of fiction, which began with the following first line:

“So, how did you know you wanted to be a…a waxtress?”

I’m not done yet, but I’d call this a rather genius first line. Not only is it quirky, it’s also telling. All I’ll say by way of explanation is this: it now brings to mind Mr. Miyagi telling Daniel to “wax on, wax off,” using everyday motions to quietly build skill and discipline.

Let’s Discuss: What’s the first line of your read this Saturday?
