A Little Barnes & Noble Adventure

Nothing derails a quiet Sunday like being handed a Barnes & Noble gift card and told, “Go wild.”

Naturally, my family and I did exactly that.

We made a cozy little trip to the bookstore thanks to a gift from my mother-in-law, and everyone got to pick something out. Honestly, watching each person drift toward their chosen shelf might be one of my top-tier wholesome moments.

From my own stack of contenders, my eldest picked the winner, Victory City by Salman Rushdie. She said it “looked the most magical,” and frankly, she wasn’t wrong. The story follows Pampa Kampana, a girl touched by a goddess who becomes the chronicler and architect of an entire empire. Mythic, sweeping, and full of history. This one is waiting for its turn in my rotation.

Naturally, I also grabbed two new bookmarks because self-control is a myth. One is a dramatic, elongated black cat that looks like it’s tiptoeing across the page and also like either of our two black cats. The other is a skeleton hugging a book beneath “Bury Me With My TBR List.” Very spiritually accurate.

It was a small, sweet bookish moment, but it left me smiling. And yes, my TBR absolutely grew again. Would it even be a trip to Barnes & Noble if it didn’t?

Let’s Discuss: Are you team “I need more bookmarks” or team “I use whatever scrap of paper is closest”?

    1. Same, really. I love bookmarks. I collect them, primarily because they are the more affordable option for collecting from a bookstore. 😆But, I’ll often use the library receipt or something like that, until I manage to misplace that and then grab a bookmark. I love the idea of using origami people designed by your child! We picked up lots of free bookmarks at a local library that had kids make a bunch, too.
