Every now and then, an independent bookstore reminds us that book people have an excellent sense of humor.

While scrolling Instagram, I came across a reel from Odd Bird Bookshop in Bel Air, Maryland, that gave me a good laugh. With recent concerns surrounding contaminated lettuce, the bookstore offered an unconventional alternative.
They joked:
“Spending my money on iced coffee and books to avoid the diarrhea plague.”
The shop encouraged readers to skip the lettuce, grab an iced coffee from a nearby café, and spend that grocery money on books instead.
Now, to be perfectly clear, I Speak Book Nerd is not endorsing replacing vegetables with novels. (Your doctor would probably have some thoughts about that.)
But replacing one salad with a trip to an independent bookstore? That’s a recommendation I can get behind.
At the very least, a good book is unlikely to give you food poisoning… though it might keep you up far too late reading “just one more chapter.”
Hahaha I love this post and idea! I totally can get behind that too. Absolutely without a shadow of a doubt I’d get a book with that money. Or even better find a local second hand/independent book shop and buy multiple books 📚 😀
Haha, I was hoping someone would say that! 😄 I love the idea of heading to a local secondhand or independent bookstore. You could come home with a whole stack instead of just one! 📚
