Hello, fellow book nerds, and welcome to another edition of The Nerd’s Sunday Tarot.
This Sunday finds me just beginning The Glowing Hours by Leila Siddiqui. The synopsis suggests it’s an unsettling revisionist gothic horror novel about an Indian woman who’s come to London to deliver a letter to her brother. Unable to find him anywhere, she takes employment… with Mary Shelley, the summer she begins writing Frankenstein.
I pulled The Knight of Swords, and I wonder how accurately it will apply to the story.
The woman’s urgent mission to deliver this letter to her brother and the subsequent need to seek employment to earn money for her return passage to India fit this card like a glove. The Knight of Swords doesn’t knock. He arrives. The Knight is impulsive, too sharp and fast, and convinced he’s right. If this doesn’t fit a group of people descending into madness in a haunted villa, I don’t know what does. Everyone’s emotions and fears escalate, creating half the stormy vibe this card is known for both literally and figuratively. The card’s vibe also tracks with foreboding weather, according to the synopsis.
I’m only just beginning this one, folks. I’ll let you know if the card delivered when I share my review.
Let’s Discuss
Have you ever read a book that felt like pure Knight of Swords energy, fast, tense, and stormy? What was it?
