I love how first lines are like the smell of the book baking, making you eager to finally really dig your teeth in. That’s why I’ve decided to use Saturdays to share the first line of whatever this nerd is reading along with a few thoughts about it.
This Saturday I am reading Fabric of Lies by Susan Van Kirk, and its first line is…
“Aha! They’re playing our song!”
Isn’t that just charming? It’s a great way to start off a cozy little mystery and suggests to me that this story will include at least one heart-warming relationship and hopefully more. I suspected, based on the synopsis, that this book would have a cozy vibe, and this opening line pretty much confirmed it.
Let’s Discuss:
Do first lines matter to you as a reader, or do you decide whether to stay based on the first chapter or more?
